What is the main
difficulty involved in learning a foreign language? There are two main reasons why people believe learning a foreign language to be difficult.
Firstly, many people start off thinking that it is simply too difficult a task for them. Very often, "I don't know" becomes "I can't".
Obviously, learning a foreign language is not an easy task, but it is certainly not as difficult as many people think. After all, if other people can do it, there is no reason why you can't. The only things you need are the right tools and, above all, the right attitude.
Secondly, people are often worried about "making a fool of themselves" when learning a foreign language. Nevertheless, the objective to learning a foreign language lies in being able to communicate.
There is quite a difference between the level of knowledge required to become a professional translator and the ability needed to get your ideas across to others in another language. If you can get your idea across, you are communicating and that is success. There is no reason why mistakes should prevent communication, but not speaking because you are afraid of making mistakes does prevent it.
