What does "interpreting" mean?

According to the Spanish Royal Academy (www.rae.es), the definition of "interpret" is as follows:
interpret. (From Latin interpretāri).

1. To explain or declare the meaning of something, principally that of a text.
2. To translate from one language to another, above all when done orally.
3. To explain actions, saying or events that may be understood in more than one manner.
4. To personally conceive, order or express reality.
5. To represent a theatrical, cinematographic work, etc.
6. The execute a piece of music by singing or with instruments.
7. To artistically execute a dance whilst following a choreography.
