Simultaneous interpreting is the modality of interpreting most suited to events attended by a
multilingual audience and during which a fluid, simultaneous level of communication is required.
Considered as the most precise, exact form of interpreting, a simultaneous interpreting service usually requires the presence of at least two interpreters per language combination. Each interpreter "translates" the speakers' discourse for the benefit of the listeners present and with the minimum of delay. Given that simultaneous interpreting is carried out in soundproofed booths, the interpreter's physical presence is not perceived by either the speaker or the members of the audience. Each listener is supplied with headphones in order that he/she may follow the speakers' discourse in his/her own language.
Simultaneous interpreting is particularly suited to:
- Conferences
- Courses
- Congresses
